2012 Avrupa Futbol Şampiyonası öncesi sokaktaki kedi ve köpeklerden kurtulmaya çalışan Ukrayna hükümeti hayvanları henüz canlıyken yakarak itlaf ettiğine dair kuvvetli istihbaratlar gelmeye başladı.
UEFA Başkanı Michel Platini, ülkeye ziyareti sırasında sokak hayvanlarının fazlalığı karşısında endişelenince, Ukrayna Hükümeti sorunu bu hayvanları öldürerek çözme yoluna gitti. Şampiyonanın yapılacağı Lysychansk şehrinde hayvanlar vuruluyor ve hâlâ canlılarken 900 derecelik fırınlara atılıyor. Ukraynalı yetkililer mobil bir krematoryum kullanarak kısırlaştırılmış hayvanları itlaf ediyor. Köpek yakalayıcıları ve şoförlerden oluşan mobil ekip hayvanları vurmak için silahlı geziyor. Mobil krematoryum diğer şehirlere ve ilçelere de kiralanıyor. Ukraynalı hayvan hakları aktivistleri bu uygulamayı bir yıldan fazla bir süredir protesto ediyor, UEFA operasyon müdürü Martin Kallen da hayvan kontrolü adı altında yapılan hiçbir zulmü onaylamadığını söyledi ancak uygulama halen sürüyor.
Binlerce köpeğin zehirlenerek, yakılarak vahşice itlafı dünya çapında da tepkiye neden oldu. Hatta bu vahşete karşı imza kampanyaları başlatıldı. According to the information we have received from the Ukrainian Animal Rights organisations, you are killing so many stray dogs because 2012 FIFA event will be held in your country. As you can see from the attached pictures and videos, you are killing the dogs by giving them poisonous food, injecting them with poison, shooting them with guns and burning them in the bins where some of them is still alive!!!!
What you are doing right now is disgusting and inhumane. We are urging you to stop this torture right now and treat any dogs that have been wounded. We would also like you to find the people who are responsible in this unbelievable torture against stray dogs.
We are the advocate of Animal Rights all over the world. Until you stop this disgusting torture against stray dogs in your Country, we will continue to share all the information we have, and present this information to social networking sites and media agencies. You can appreciate that this would affect the honourable status of your country in the eyes of the World and it may bring negative consequences for your country such as in the area of tourism and economy. We will also conduct protests in front of your Embassies around the World.
Therefore, please stop this inhumane behaviour immediately and inform us about what is the current situation of the dog’s .If this does not stop, and then we will do everything in our power to make you stop this torture…

With deep sadness and horror I read about the planned and already started killing of dogs and cats in preparation for the UEFA European Football Championship 2012 in the Ukraine.
Hundreds of dogs and cats are put in bags ALIVE to be carried to a crematorium to suffer until their death in Lysychansk or other places.
I ask how you can accept this? And I´m sure this act of cruelty is well known to the relevant departments.
Football brings people of all nations together to enjoy this sport where fairness play an important role and what happens right now is fair.
It is important to realize that it isn´t a solution to kill stray animals because the responsibility for this situation are their former owners and the government lacking appropriate solutions like sterilization, animal shelters and so on.
A change has to come and I beg you to do your best in stopping this insane act of animal cruelty, especially for the preparations of a GAME.
Please don´t let this happen anymore and urge the government and responsible person to find other solutions like finding good people willing to adopt a dog/cat or making/asking for a donation so that these dogs and cats could be treated (sterilization) or that they are given shelter. Just find some human way to end this!
Your country has so many good things to offer and it would be a positive sign for the whole world if you end this slaughter. Please let your heart decide for the good and make this world a little better for everyone.
We are ALL gods creation and we should act like that!!
